Participating In Something Eternal
By Bret Magpiong, Committee Member
Over coffee one Saturday morning, my dear friend Brian Britt threw out an interesting idea - join him in starting up a Young Life Committee in Torrance…where business folks and community members might help power this amazing ministry for teenagers. Once he explained how Committee members get to be the behind-the-scenes champions who support Young Life leaders through prayer, fundraising, and strategic planning, I was hooked and jumped in. Thanks to Brian's nudge, I've found an incredible way to make a difference by working alongside other professionals who love helping Young Life leaders connect with high school students.
Serving with fellow Committee members has opened my eyes to the deep commitment and fierce love others have for seeing teenagers' lives transformed through this ministry. Their passion pushes me to think bigger about how I can leverage my own resources and relationships to help Young Life reach every kid in our community.
When I step back and look at the grand narrative of God's work in the world, I see Young Life playing a crucial role in introducing teenagers to their place in this Story. My investment of time and resources in Young Life isn't just about supporting a good organization - it's about participating in something eternal and transformative. In a world full of worthy causes, I can't think of a better way to spend myself than helping young people discover their role in God's Larger Story.
